Preparing your Home for Guests

Whether it’s just for a movie night or you plan to have them stay the month, you need to take special consideration when choosing furniture for the purpose of keeping guests. You want them to want them to want to return.

When it was just you in your home, you were fine with a love seat and a couple chairs in the living room but that’s not going to be enough if you plan to host movie night with friends. You are going to need one good sized couch, depending on how many people are coming over and how cozy you want to get with them. Two is even better but most people don’t have living rooms that large. Futons are a good choice. They can be changed into their bed form for even more comfortable movie enjoyment.

Speaking of futons, they are a great choice if you plan to have people stay the night but do not have a room to convert into a guest room. You can also use a set of bunk beds in your bedroom to increase the sleeping space without taking up any more floor space. Unlike futons, adult bunk beds are beds primarily and tend to be more comfortable. You can, of course, use both futons and bunk beds to increase the potential sleeping space for the nights that your friends decide to stay over. You should never make a friend sleep on a couch but you may not want to snuggle up with each person you have in your life.

If you use these options then you are sure to have happy friends the next morning after they stay the night. Complaints about stiff backs and junky pullout couches will no longer grace the halls of your home.

Finally getting engaged!

Me and my boyfriend decided that we will get engaged and then we’ll marry maybe in 1 or 2 years from now. I’m so happy about it that I can barely write this down! I wanted to go through this a long time ago but I think that my boyfriend did not really want to commit to the relationship so he found  numerous reasons to put it off. However, lately he realized that he wanted to spend his life with me and he told me that we can get engaged anytime I want to. After hearing the great news we then started planing the whole thing because we want to make a small event out if with friends and family, something like a wedding rehearsal…lol. Right now we’re looking for diamond rings, for a suitable location and for some nice clothes so that we can make that day worthy to remember for the rest of our lives. My head is spinning now…secretly I’m only thinking about how to have the perfect wedding…you know, the one which every girl dreams of since the early childhood.

Have you ever heard of wrap rage?

Almost every time I but some product wrapped in a tight plastic packaging I get really nervous trying to get it out…especially if I don’t have any cutting tool such as a pair of scissors or a knife. Anyway, today I found out that there is a name for this action and it’s called a “wrap rage” and it’s been discovered that the levels of anger and frustration are much higher under these conditions. It seems that every year, a lot of people injure themselves in the process of trying to open plastic packaging. Some of the most common injuries are cut fingers and sprained wrists.

The plastic packages are intentionally made difficult to open by the manufacturing companies in order to prevent shop lifting.  One of the methods of shoplifting involves removing small objects from their big packages and smuggling them out of the store concealed in the clothes. But this deterrent for thieves proves to be a huge headache for some of the customers which end up really frustrated after trying to open the package for several minutes at a time…exactly what happens to me

The time for total house revamping is here

I’m the full redecorating process of my home right now and all I can say is that it feels great. Other people are very stressed out when going through this process but I’m feeling as if I have the chance of a new beginning and that I’m like a child in a sandbox…I can do whatever I choose. So I’ve decided to give my house a contemporary look because I always like new things and I’m not much of a conservatory person at all.

I’ll try to make every room have its own feel but the whole house should be in harmony also. For the living I’ve found a stunning coffee table which can be made smaller or bigger according to your needs, but I also have installed a drinks bar with contemporary bar stools, which are out of this world. They are designer stools which I got from Amazon at a drop dead price.

Speaking of drop dead, recently I’ve been thinking of investing in an item which might prove to be life saving. I’m thinking of adding a aed defibrillator to my house. This may sound strange but a heart attack can always happen to me or somebody else in my home. So one of these devices can really come in handy in case of an emergency. Right now they are not so popular but I suspect that one day they will be as common as seat belts and airbags are today.

This song is stuck in my head for the last few days

I just wanted to share a song which is stuck in my head for a while now. Although this is not your typical melody, I must say I really enjoy listening to it. Furthermore, it features one of my favorite people who ever lived: Carl Sagan. If you have never heard of him you should know that Carl Sagan was one of the biggest scientists of the 20th century and one of the finest minds humanity has ever seen. What are the best solutions for lighting up my garden?

I’m planning to revamp my garden because it looks really bad. Right now I have everything figured out when it comes to vegetation and pathways as I’ve been in contact with a good landscaping company from which I got a bit of advice. However, I haven’t yet still found a solution in regards to the lighting rigs aspect. My head is spinning with possibilities: short lights, tall ones, electrical, solar powered, hanging, architectural, ambient etc.

The only thing I know is that I want to have some switch in order to turn the lights on and off whenever I want. But in the same time I want some motion detector lights in case there is somebody sneaking up though my garden at nights. However, I heard from some people that these kinds of lights can detect passing animals such as cats and dogs, which translated into a lot of false alarms…and the problem is that I spook easily.

I just started my first aquarium…yey!

I recently got started with keeping aquarium fish. I think it’s a really cool hobby which can be very rewarding. So since I’m a beginner, I started of with the basic kit consisting of a medium aquarium which has some substrate, some plants and 10 fish. I went for the easiest fish to keep which are guppies. As my skills progress I want to start keeping more difficult species such as the tropical fish, which are known for their sensibility to a huge amount of factors. But for now, I’m happy raising my 10 little guppies as best as I can. I hope that within 6 months time I can get a bigger aquarium and start caring for several species at once. I can’t wait until I have the aquarium of my dreams!
